Name: Shuichi Saihara
Door: Right

Canon: Danganronpa v3
Canon Point: Chapter 6, just before the trial

Age: ~16-17
Appearance: here

History: Shuichi @ Danganronpa Wiki
Personality: Shuichi was conceived by those who created his character as a "weak detective". He can come across as very unreliable at first glance, being a bit quiet and introverted as well as uncertain and self-deprecating. He's generally unconfident, frequently doubting himself, and he can be very passive, bending easily when pushed. He doesn't even like looking others in the eye, clinging to the security of a hat he could hide behind for the whole first chapter if the game.

However, under the timid exterior he does have a spine. While he tends to shrink back from conflict, even he has a point where he'll snap back, and he can have a very dry sense of humor when exasperated. He gets down about himself fairly easily, but he's pretty quick to defend others, judging people fairly and always giving them the benefit of the doubt. He comes across as being pretty serious, but a side effect of bending so easily is that he's a flexible person, able to handle all kind of shenanigans and horror relatively easily.

Ultimately, when he has other people to rely on, Shuichi can be extremely reliable himself. He's intelligent and observant and can solve mysteries and problems with ease, skills that serve him well both as a detective and in his dealings with others. As an apprentice detective, he specialized in mostly things like missing pets and infidelity cases with just one fluke of a solved murder, but he still pulls through and manages to work out all the murders in the killing game despite his relative inexperience, his lack of confidence, and his personal involvement with all the victims and killers. When times are tough, he can end up being the most dependable person of the group, with a level head and a rational, analytic manner of thinking in the worst of situations. In those dark times, he can be very sturdy and determined. He steadfastly tries to do what's right, believes in others wherever possible without letting that cloud his judgement, and works to overcome his own personal issues with the support of his friends.

At the core of Shuichi's character arc is his fear and doubts over whether it's always right to pursue the truth. As a detective, he feels this is a pathetic thing to worry about and he gets very down on himself about it, but he worries over things like whether people are happier not knowing the truth of some situations. He's repeatedly forced to confront this issue as the Killing Game forces him to uncover unpleasant truths for the sake of everyone's survival. Ultimately, with the support of his friends, he's decided to do his job as a detective to the best of his abilities, facing the truth whatever it may be and dealing with whatever might come of it, good or bad. Many times, he's the only one willing to look into a subject further, whether because everyone else is too set in their opinions or don't want to consider a potentially awful possibility. He's upset by the others accusing him of not trusting them or of wanting things to be as bad as he imagines, but he bears it all to make sure they uncover the truth and never holds anyone's lashing out at him against them.

Despite his often passive nature, Shuichi manages to get along with literally everyone if given enough of a chance. He can get rather wrapped up in his own worries and struggles and fail to notice when others are struggling too, but when he is paying attention he generally does his best to be a good friend. He's fairly easygoing and willing to go along with all kinds of nonsense if it isn't hurting anyone. He's patient, a good listener, and can put up with a lot of bullshit before getting really exasperated or angry. Even when dealing with people he doesn't really trust, he tries his best to understand them and does what he can to help. He generally thinks much more highly of others than he does of himself, which makes him great for helping others talk through their issues but absolutely awful for anyone trying to hit on him. He's pretty shy in regards to romance even if someone gets through to him that they actually mean it, but he takes that sort of thing very seriously and tries his best to be considerate of others' feelings when he's aware of them.
